The Scarecrow has been my favorite comic book villain for the longest time, ever since I was first introduced to him in my childhood when Batman the Animated Series first aired on TV. But what was it that made him stand out so much? Why not Joker, or Riddler, or Penguin? Why was it always the Scarecrow I looked forward to seeing again whenever a new episode aired? Why was it that every time a new Batman movie was announced I hoped the Scarecrow would be the main villain(given how Batman and Robin turned out, it was probably for the better he was left out)? And why was it I felt underwhelmed by his extended cameo in Batman Begins and his bit-

You've seen them ALL over deviant art and fanfiction.net. Batman's foe Jonathan Crane aka the Scarecrow meets some lonely girl and gets into a relationship with her, losing all resemblance to the character we've known since the 1940's. While I liked the portrayal in Nolan's films, and Murphy did a decent job at it, I fear this may have caused a serious explosion in his popularity for all the wrong reasons, and the many hormone-driven teen girls who fanticize about the Scarecrow don't know the first thing about his personality (there is a rather amusing fanfic though where Crane meets his fangirls, and responds in a very in-character fashion o
